Car Key Fobs
Call Us If Your Key Fob Has Stopped Working
Lockmaster Security Services Inc. is your local source for high-quality, OEM key fobs in Las Vegas, NV. We have the skills and computer equipment it takes to program spare keyless remotes for your vehicle, repair your push to start ignition and diagnose problems with your proximity fobs.
Wondering How Proximity Fobs Work?
If you own a domestic or imported car, light-duty truck or passenger van that was made anytime in the last 25 years or so, chances are good your ignition is equipped with a short-range, low-power coded radio receiver to help deter thieves.
This receiver picks up coded signals sent from your car remote fob when the fob is within 30 feet or so of your vehicle. When the codes programmed on both your proximity fob and your vehicle match, the onboard computer in your car will unlock your ignition, allowing you to start the engine. Many prox fobs also perform other functions such as locking and unlocking the doors, activating the alarm and opening the tailgate.
What Causes a Car Remote Fob to Fail?
The most common cause of malfunction for keyless remotes is worn-out batteries. The battery inside your remote can wear down quicker than you might expect, even if you don’t put a lot of miles on your vehicle.
Like all batteries, car remote fob batteries continuously discharge power, while extreme heat or cold can speed up the rate of discharge. And thanks to the fact that push-to-start systems need a strong signal from the fob to work properly, even relatively new prox fobs may malfunction.
Next to a weak fob battery, the most common reason why keyless remotes fail is that they are physically damaged. Proximity fobs that have been immersed in water or dropped on a hard surface may have damage to the onboard chip.
How Much Do New Prox Fobs Cost?
If you’ve priced out spare proximity fobs at your dealership, you already know that a new car remote fob can cost more than your monthly car payment. Add to that the markup that most dealerships charge to order and program new proximity fobs and you can expect to pay upwards of $500 or more for a replacement fob for your vehicle.
Here at Lockmaster Security Services Inc., we supply and program OEM-quality keyless remotes for a fraction of the price you’ll pay through your dealership. We guarantee all of our work, and unlike at a dealership, all of our services are performed by a fully licensed locksmith.
